Makes PEX plumbing easy!
Makes PEX plumbing easy! I had to tap into my existing 3/4-inch hot water PEX main from the hot water heater to run a smaller line to a new whole house humidifier I installed. Had the job done in 30 minutes. Changing the jaws for the various sizes of PEX is easy, and the crimping pliers were already calibrated. The PEX cutter is sharp and makes accurate, square cuts easy. Laying out the piping still requires some planning to be sure that the crimpers fit in the spaces you need, but this kit makes easy work of it. The cost of the tool is much cheaper than hiring a plumber for an hour and gives you another tool in your arsenal that should last for many, many years.

Awesome tool - Save on a plumber and have a tool in your pocket for future needs...
I am renovating a bathroom and brought in a few plumbers to bid moving a bathtub drain and some plumbing lines. They quoted almost 3 grand, so I brought someone in for $600 to scan my post tension slab and identify exactly where the cables were (yes, a lot of money, but you don't want to hit a cable). Once they did, I decided to do it myself. So, about $900 in tools/materials and a rental jackhammer, I saved about $2K, and have some experience and tools to resolve future issues...To the tool. I am used to quality tools per my woodworking hobby, so do tend to understand how they should react. I originally purchased the IWISS IWS-1234W thinking I had about 10 connections and I did not need a high end tool. It also received great reviews. Receiving the tool, I was quickly surprised. The box was smaller than anticipated and I immediately was concerned. It is the red one in the pics, and as you see barely larger than scissors for scale. I kept an open mind, and performed a test on scrap pipe and an extra connector. Sure enough, it was exceedingly difficult to crimp a 3/4" ring on PEX. I'm not a weak guy and do a lot of my work myself including masonry fireplace, bbq, walls, etc. The tool is just too small and awkward in crimping, and it does not give good feedback when complete. It was a successful test, at least per the go/nogo gauge, but with uncertain tool feedback for a complete crimp, and the awkwardness/difficulty in crimping, I returned it and bought this F1807 Kit. My concern was quality of connections, and being water, a leak would do extensive damage, and given I just spent 4 months making the cabinets/vanity, and a couple barn doors, I did not want to take a chance. To this F1807 Kit. This kit is $20 more than the orange unit. Per the pics you can see it is a bit larger than it as well.It also comes with a ring removal tool which works great if you are just unsure of your crimp, or make a bad crimp. I think it takes just one mistake to pay for itself. I used it to recover the connectors I used as a test. This unit also crimps up to 1" PEX, also down to 3/8", so more bang for the buck. I immediately tested it, and it was easy to crimp, solid and gave good feedback when the ring was crimped. Light years better than the other unit. So, I moved forward and completed my bathroom quickly I might add with impressive results, no mistakes and most importantly no leaks. The confidence this gives is so much better than the smaller unit, so now I will tackle any plumbing project without concern. Like 9 months ago, when a 5" lag for a TV mount found dead center in a PEX water line. Yes, that little mistake cost my insurance company about $1800, but I since I did the flood remediation and drywall repair myself, I was lucky and recovered my $500 deductible. Regardless, I did not want to mess with the plumbing, but after buying this tool now, it seems silly because this is just so simple. Crazy, because I will break open anything in a home, and tackle any DIY, construction or building project, but two things scare me. Electrical and indoor plumbing. Well, I can scratch indoor plumbing off my list now.Anyway, for $20 more than that other kit, this is worth twice that of the other tool in value. I can see where the size would aid in tight places, but believe that would be a rarity. With the head design and , crimping 3/4" PEX towards the back, I don't see much difference in the head would provide increased benefit in tight spaces, but the action of the handle when opening sure does as this unit does get large when you open it. Again, it was not an issue for me. Maybe if you're in a crawl space/small closet/tight corner, but in that case, I say shell out the extra $65 as a secondary tool. With it's difficulty to use, awkwardness and lack of feedback, I would ONLY use it when I had no choice and would not/did not keep it as my one and only tool. The F1807 on the other hand gives me much more confidence, is easier to use and will give you more consistent/better results. In short, I am more than pleased with this tool and if you are trying to save $20, skip pizza. It's not worth it to skimp and buy the smaller tool...

Opened the box and started crimping
I purchased this Pex crimper to help with the installation of a tankless water heater. I had to make changes to the plumbing and thought this would be a good way to speed things up. This crimper did make quick easy work of the plumbing. The crimper worked great right out of the box and was easy to configure to the correct pipe size. I did use both the 3/4 and 1/2 inch jaws. All of the crimps passed the go/no-go gauge, no adjustments to the crimper were needed. I also ended up using the removal tool on a couple of fittings. Removed the ring without marking the fitting. Having the ability to pre crimp the fittings was also nice and helped keep the ring in position until the final crimp. This is the first time I've worked with Pex piping so I don't have anything to compare this product with, but it seemed to be a good quality tool. I recommend this crimper and will most likely purchase other iCrimp products.
