It Works! But...
IT WORKS! It really works! I’ve used the Slow Feeder for the past 30 days. No matter how much kibble I put out (the most being one cup—a day’s extra allotment), Rex does not regurgitate his food anymore. He eats what he wants, walks away from the Slow Feeder, and finishes his food later. (Also note that the Slow Feeder is surprisingly easy to hand clean with a wet sponge.)BUT in my opinion, there are TWO DESIGN FLAWS that potential customers should be aware of.The Slow Feeder is advertised as being a bowl—it’s not. It’s really an 8 1/2” diameter shallow concave PLATE.While Rex is eating, he uses his paw to move some of the kibble off the plate and onto the floor. I didn’t like the idea of him eating off the floor so I put a large 14” diameter platter under the Slow Feeder. Now, practically all of the food that he paws off the Feeder drops onto the platter, not the floor—a problem 99% solved. But introducing the large platter created another problem. The ceramic Slow Feeder moved easily around the glass platter so I cut an 8 1/2” diameter piece of rubberized anti-skid material to stop that movement. The “bodies” of the three center-circle protrusions are too tall at 1 1/4” and the space created by the center protrusions is too small for Rex (and most cats?) to comfortably eat from. As a result, Rex uses his paw to move the food out of the center. My suggestions to the manufacturer are these:- Add a circular side to the top of the plate approximately 1 1/4” high (making it a true bowl) to keep the kibble in the bowl. To compensate for the added cost, reduce the diameter of the Slow Feeder somewhat (it’s overly large as it is).- Remove the three protrusions that form the center circle and replace them with two bars forming a cross, each bar the same length as the diameter as the current center circle; and reduce the height of the protrusions to about 1/2”. The cross design will make it easier for cats to eat the food in the center area and should encourage the cat to move around the bowl to eat from the four quadrants formed by the cross thus slowing down the time it takes to eat the kibble.- If the second suggestion is not approved, at least lower the height of the three protrusions forming the center circle to around 1/2” high. (Currently, the “bodies” of the center protrusion are 1 1/4” high and the “tails” are 1/2” high.) Hopefully, lowering the height will make it easier for the cat to eat more food from the center area.I’d like to give the product 5 stars; but because of what I perceive to be two design flaws, I downgraded the rating to 4 stars. I’m keeping the Slow Feeder because it works. I’m hoping the manufacturer will introduce version 2.0 (a true bowl with a redesigned center section) sometime in the future. If that happens, I’ll buy the new version, if the price is right.

Trying to thwart the cat's plan to turn into Marlon Brando
First of all, I love Marlon Brando so no offense, but he got pretty large later in life! My cat is attempting to do just the same. He loooooves his dry food and will walk you over to his bowl, even when there is food still in it, trying to get you to give him more. In the morning, even after feeding him some wet food, he still begs for his dry food. If I put it in a regular bowl he gobbles at least 3/4 of it in about a half an hour. He is NOT one of the cats that throws up from eating too fast like I've heard about, but his gorging can't be healthy. I decided on this slow feeder because it isn't made of plastic so 1. more environmentally friendly 2. probably healthier for my cat to eat out of. This helps so much in slowing down his feeding process, and since he is polydactyl and his paws are too big to really maneuver all of his food out, I do help him out by eventually pouring it into a bowl. I only use this for his morning feedings since that is when he is most likely to gorge himself, so I only need to clean it once a day. Since it's ceramic, it cleans really easy. I don't think I have anything else to say about this slow feeder, except it is the best tool I have to help slow him down. I also have an exercise ball that works great, and some "mice" that you fill with food and hide around the house. The latter hasn't really caught on with him that well which is too bad. Of these three methods, the ceramic feeder is the most convenient, works well, and is easy to use.

Best slow-feed bowl for cats out there!
The media could not be loaded. Chicken never vomited his food back up, BUT he did eat it very, very quickly. Like, he wasn't even crunching the kibbles, just inhaling them whole. He'd finish his whole breakfast/supper before we could even get the dogs bowl filled, and then he still thought he was hungry, so he'd try to eat the dogs food, too. We tried a couple other slow-feed bowls first (less expensive one, and different styles), but this one takes the cake. What used to take Chicken a whopping minute (or two) to eat his 1/2 cup of dry kibble in the morning, now takes him close to 10 minutes.Because of the low sides/edges, Chicken is able to push the kibbles out with his nose or fish them out with his paws. Other designs have higher sides (like an actual bowl) which caused him to get too frustrated and he would just end up eating out of the dogs bowl instead (which defeated the whole purpose of a slow-feed dish to begin with). It's a really good weight so he can't lift it up when he's pawing at it, or when he stands on the edge it doesn't flip over. I put a little piece of that rubbery non-slip material underneath it so it doesn't slide on the linoleum, but if you feed on a mat of some kind, or on any kind of carpeted surface, it's definitely heavy enough that it won't move on its own. It's dishwasher safe, so when the time comes it will be easy to clean. There aren't any deep/sharp corners or crevasses on this dish either, which means there aren't any places for crumbs (or wet food, if you feed that way) to get caked in anywhere. For reference, Chicken is an adult male who weighs a little over 13lb. Our vet guesses he's around 2-3 years old, and he wasn't neutered until very recently (he was feral/stray when he showed up at our house with his trouble-puffs shaved, his ear tipped, and a green line tattooed on his belly) so he's got some decent "tom cat" type cheeks/jowls since he had all his "hey, I'm a boy, where the ladies at" hormones for so long; which is why he can't get his whole face in between the taller fins in the middle of the dish, but his tongue reaches everything in the outer 2/3 of the bowl, and he can get his paws into all of the openings as well, so he's certainly not going to starve. This was an excellent purchase, well worth the $19 spent!

Best thing EVER
The media could not be loaded. The struggle is now real, in the best way. Our 7 month old kitten would inhale his food, no chewing, he would choke. But look! 100% success. It takes him at least 10 times longer to eat his food.1 small drawback is that with a forceful enough cat it does slide around. But we fixed this by putting the bowl on a silicone mat and now it stays in place!Brilliant. 10/10 would recommend and would buy again.

Amazing!!
This has got to be the best slow feeder bowl for young and old. We have 3 cats (3,8,18), they all eat so quick and 2 are overweight. After trying different things and products that never worked, we finally decided to give this a try. We are now able to free feed them since they don't overeat. Best thing they all lost weight and have been more active. We needed something that was good for short nosed cats (Scottish fold), and sturdy for our bigger lynx mix breed. Also helps keep the dog from eating their food.

Best thing for my gorger cat!
This bowl has been a god-sent for us and our lovely cat who likes to eat so fast that he pukes. This bowl forces him to think of ways to get the food out, making him eat a lot slower. He absolutely hates it, but he figures it out every time after about 30 minutes of meowing he finally realizes that this is his only option and magically can figure out how to get to the food. Saves my husband and I 25 trips to the cat food bowl a day - trying to feed him in small increments all throughout the day is painful!

Love it!
I had a hard time finding a good bowl to slow down my 3 cats who love to munch on their food too fast and then vomit everywhere. This has done wonders for us. Lot less puke and I love that it's ceramic because plastic bowl causes really bad chin acne to my cats. This also works for flat faced cat, a lot of slow feeder just made it impossible for my cats to reach the food.
