Gladys Knight & the Pips Feat. Ray Charles: Live in Los Angeles [DVD]

5 stars+ all the way!!!This is one "Super Great" Concert!!!! This was filmed at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, CA, during 1977. Gladys, the Pips, and Ray Charles are all fabulus. I tell you that Gladys can really sing. She is one of the best vocalist, I've ever heard. Her voice is very smooth, and you can feel the emotions,in the songs,she sings. She is cheerful, and she basically acts as the MC for the concert. She's at the "Top of Her Game" so to speak. Gladys even sings a couple of Barbara Streisand songs ("Evergreen" & "The Way We Were"). There is a great backing band included also. The total approximate running time is about 76 minutes.The concert consists of 16 songs:Key Songs include:By Gladys Knight & the Pips: "Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me"(Smooth, Emotional & Simply Outstanding), "Midnight Train to Georgia" (a Southern Classic, it makes you want to take that midnight train), "I've Got to Use My Imagination" and "I heard it Through the Grapevine".By Ray Charles: "America the Beautiful" (an awesome performance!!!)By Gladys Knight & Ray Charles (together):"Georgia On My Mind" (another Southern Classic)"Neither One of Us" (Awesome, & Emotional, and they artistically tie this song into the last song of the concert, making for a perfect ending)"Hit the Road Jack" (Neither one of us wants to be the 1st to say goodbye, but somebody has to do it, so "Hit the Road Jack".)This is a "Classic" in my opinion. It's one of those concerts that everyone should hear. I highly recommend it!!! Thanks!!!!

Sound needed improvement

This concert was recorded in Los Angeles in 1977. Amazingly, 30 years later, it has finally been released! It not only features Gladys Knight and the Pips at their peak, but Ray Charles at his as well. All of the vocals are knock outs. Gladys singing "Evergreen" and "The Way We Were" sears with raw emotion. Ray Charles singing "America The Beautiful" stirs the soul. Ray does several numbers with Gladys and several of his famous numbers with the Raylettes. And of course there are all of those cooking classic Gladys Knight and the Pips hits. This is Gladys Knight at her soulful best!

I purchased this video and avoided the one that listed Hudson Street as the studio I payed double the price because the studio listed said Immortal Studio, i have previously purchased DVD that had been produced by Hudson Street and the Quality is always the worst of any reproduction that is on the market. so to my surprise when I turned on the Dvd i was already disappointed because it said Hudson Street and not Immortal they are in different packaging but the same crappy product, had i known this i would have avoided the DVD even though I am a diehard fan of Gladys Knight,even though you might see 2 dvds for Gladys Knight and think you are being savvy and avoiding a terrible product by Hudson street be warned . the Video is of poor quality, grainy,not clear if you insist on having the product purchase the one at the lower cost save the money

Five stars for the concert!!! However, since the dvd quality is so poor I had to give it 4 stars. The musical content is so great, it would be unfair (IMHO), to give this dvd a poor rating. Seeing the Pips grand stepping choreography as they sing along with Gladys is a keeper! Then, to see and hear Ray Charles is awesome....especially when he sings America the Beautiful!!!Note: whoever wrote the liner notes got their info wrong! Merald "Bubba" Knight is Gladys's brother!!! NOT her cousin!!!!

i am a huge gladys knight fan but this was a big let down. i anticipated good photography, not great just good. it was barely fair if you like to to see a big fuzzy screen. the sound was awful, very camcorder quality. she sang 3-4 good songs but they were poor sounding so you can imagine the songs that you have never heard before. a lot of hopping around by the pips that made watching gladys very hard to keep track of on stage. they seem to think that people come to watch them rather than her. all in all a very big deal about nothing. i do not want to even go into ray charles.

This vid brings back Gladys Knight and the Pips at the peak of their powers. She does some of her greatest hits + a mini medley of two Barbra Streisand tunes with her own spin that are both dynamite! It is exactly what I was hoping to find when I ordered this disc--a time capsule of irreplaceable sentimental value as well as a top-notch production.

Love Gladys and the Pips, but the quality is as if it were a copy of a copy, and mine skipped during the final performances.

Gladys Knight and the Pips...remember this is old film (not 100% perfect but watchable) the sound is good..and the concert is great, wow soul! I wish this was restored because this is history of great performers...to me it was worth the purchase because its hard to find and is good..I do hope that some day a company will take films like these and bring back to life...

Great combination and a superb mix of pleasure by two giants of soul music I love it, but then I'm a great fan of them both

ドラマチックなグラディス節を十分に楽しめました。全盛期のグラディスは最高に素敵です。「めぐり逢い」、「つきせぬ想い」、「夜汽車よジョージアへ」などの大ヒット曲につづいて中盤の「追憶」では何かに憑かれたような圧倒的なグラディスの表現力、歌唱力に釘付けになります。後半、サプライズ・ゲストのレイ・チャールスが数曲披露した後、彼がピアノで彼のヒット曲「我が心のジョージア」のイントロを始めると、上手の袖幕の中からグラディスが歌い始めながら登場します。素敵です。二人のデュエットで会場が盛り上がります。そして、今度はレイ・チャールスは静かにグラディスの大ヒット曲「さよならは悲しい言葉」を口ずさみ始めます。二人のデュエットは最高です。鳥肌が立ちます。そしてレイ・チャールスのアップテンポな曲でステージは閉じて行きます。70年代の一般的な映像の質は全然気になりません。最高に感動的なステージのDVDです。

I bought this for a Gladys Knight fan and although the quality isn't great it gets played on a daily basis. Great dvd if you don't mind the less than perfect quality
