It does work - bad reviews are unfounded
I actually purchased this charger without discounts --it does work well just like advertised, I saw charging rates from .5 amps to .9 amps in good sunlight - it's a bit slower than a wall charger -- but it's lightweight and it does work. The mesh bag on the back is a great to leave a charge bank in to charge up and is very useful. -- the people who are not getting it to work are likely just not plugging it in all the way until the USB clicks - I did it once too

Does not work.
Initially I left my phone turned on, plugged it in, and set the solar panel in full, hot summer afternoon sun for about one hour. The phone lost 3% of its original charge.Next, I shut my phone off, plugged it in, and set the solar panel in full, hot summer afternoon sun for about one hour. Again the phone lost 3% more of its charge.

Great for camping or hiking!
We've had this solar charger for a couple years and we love taking it on camping trips where electricity isn't available. The power isn't very much but it does charge the phone enough to use it. In situations where there is no electricity it's awesome! My son just was camping in Brazil with this and it was the envy of all his cousins!

What exactly is good for?
I think it would take years for this thing to charge a modern cellphone in the northern hemisphere. No thanks, i would rather perish with no hope than a false one.

Terrible choice
It doesn't provide enough power to charge anything but it looks nifty in the windshield!!! Lol
