Does exactly what I expected
Laptop has worked very well for me so far. Runs all my apps and software that I was running on my desktop, touch screed works pretty well in tablet mode. Overall very quiet, can hear hard drive on boot up but isn't reall that loud and you quickly tune it out. Only real con is the battery life is not very good, charges quickly but doesn't last more than 1.5 - 2 hours of constant use when running programs like photoshop or playing games even with the graphics turned down. Lasts a little longer when "battery saver" is turned on and watching a movie, but still doesn't last as long as I would like.

Ok lets just start by saying this is a great laptop. When purchasing it I got a great deal on it and use it for everything now. I started noticing THINGS that I wasn't made aware of during the purchase. I will make a pros and con list for this laptop.PROS:Light weightFast and i mean really fastGreat overall designGreat sound and that goes for the loud speakers and quiet fanProcesses like a dreamYou can control when you want your keys to light up! AWESOME!!!!CONS:No CD driveNo Ethernet portCan be scratched easilyI hope this list helps you when making your decision to purchase or not purchase this laptop. I will continue to update you upon further use of the product.PS_ Most of the cons can be fixed with a simple Ethernet to USB converter and a CD drive can be purchased and equipped to an Ethernet port. Those two things shouldn't run you more that 35.00.

The ASUS Q524UQ doesn't fail to disappoint at all levels.
the ASUS q524uq is not worth the money. Let me start by saying I use many ASUS products, and am usually very happy with them, but this laptop is far from what I expected. Part of my experience may be due to the fact that I used this to replace a ROG level laptop that burned out after years of hard use, so to be fair this was never intended to be a ROG level computer. All caveats aside, let me dig into my user experience. This laptop is very limited right out of the box. The CPU is a dual core i7. This is an issue in two ways. One, much of the software out today is optimized for more than dual core. By using a dual core i7, the computer is already slower than it should be. Perhaps ASUS was worried about the heat generated by a stronger CPU, and with only small rear vents, this is a valid concern. That said, one of the strengths of today's Intel CPU is the ability to shut off unused cores and boost the remaining by a percentage of the savings. Basically the CPU can overclock itself, which is very nice when using the computer for power intensive applications. Having only two cores, this computer struggles to keep up with even basic operations. I was able to achieve significant slowdowns just surfing the web when I had multiple tabs open. This machine is not a true multi-tasker. Even with the 12GB of DDR4 ram, this machine is becomes sluggish quickly. The GPU, a 940MX is able to game at a reasonable speed, I was able to play titles such as Wallenstein II, Mass Effect 3, and even NFS Payback, but not at full spec, and not for a long time. The computer became slow quickly, as the video ram is tied partly to the system ram. Now hardcore gamers know that a 940MX is not going to allow for top spec gaming, but I was able to do some, and used this laptop primarily for gaming on the go. Unfortunately, the GPU taxed the battery, so I was able to game for about three hours before needing to plug in.Speaking of the battery, everything in this laptop is closed. There are a series of torxs screws, but this is not designed for the end user to do any upgrades. The Hard Drive, Memory and battery are all inaccessible to the user. In the event the computer became unresponsive, which happened frequently, the only way to reset the unit was to hold in the power button until it shut down. Once rebooting it after such a time, the laptop would load very slowly, often taking up to 10 min or more to boot. The audio on this laptop is weak. No one would expect a audiophile experience with small laptop speakers, but at full volume, I struggled to hear it. If in a crowded room, or even a room with an AC unit running, or even my propane monitors, the laptop was too quiet to hear comfortably. I found myself needing to use headphones all the time. This laptop comes with a subwoofer that plugs into the side. The woofer is more for show than for use. It too did little to produce sound, and it ended up in a drawer, unused. Drivers for the sound card are limited to the factory drivers, and although there are updates, doing so will disable the subwoofer entirely. One of the advantages of a laptop is portability, but needing to plug in an external speaker is counter intuitive. Who wants wires snaking around their laptop when sitting on the couch, or while at the local coffee shop, where table surfaces are at a premium?Having small rear vents, this laptop becomes quite hot quickly when using the GPU. This may account for why the laptop lasted less than two years.Tablet mode was too limiting and the unit was too heavy to make it practical. Weighing in at nearly five pounds, flipping the screen to the back, and holding onto the unit was awkward. Because I primarily used this for gaming, tablet mode was a silly, unused feature for me. Perhaps some will like this feature, but because of the weight, this unit is not very portable for long. Now it is time for what really made this computer frustrating. Because of the frequent hanging system, and its tendency to need a forceful shut down, windows became unstable quickly. Having owned it less than two years, I had to reset it back to factory twice. This is far more frequent than I like. The process is extremely slow. A full factory reset takes nearly 24 hours. After my last reset, a few days ago, the computer HDD failed. I may try to crack open the case and replace it eventually, but in the short term I just ordered a new laptop. So in the end my take away from this is:1. the dual core i7 is under-powered and is not really able to keep up with simple demands2. the rear vents are two small to dissipate heat, and the laptop frequently becomes hot when used3. The battery is not removable, so when the computer crashes one had to hard reset by pressing the power switch4. resetting back to factory takes far to long, and may damage the HDD5. The Nvidia 940MX GPU is under-powered, but causes rapid drain of the battery6. The weight of the laptop makes using it in tablet mode difficult7. this is not designed to be upgraded by the end user, making it a poor investment for the future. At this price point, I would strongly caution against buying this laptop. It fails to deliver on almost ever front. If you want a game capable laptop, stick with the ROG line. If you want a two in one tablet, this is just not the one for you.

The track pad is super annoying, I find myself middle clicking everything with ...
Clunky and poorly designed. I have to use a pen to press the overly stiff power button. It takes forever to boot up. Hard drive is noisy. The speakers are on the bottom and sound awful; it has this custom plugin speaker that is completely impractical. The screen is overly glossy and hard to see. The track pad is super annoying, I find myself middle clicking everything with it, which if you use chrome is a huge problem. It's too heavy to use as a tablet, so nothing about this device should be considered 2:1.

Great for gaming
I bought my laptop from best buy and it was an open box so I got a great deal on it. I needed a laptop to play games on and this laptop is perfect for gaming. everything renders perfectly. The only thing that annoys me a little is fingerprints. I feel like I'm wiping it down constantly and not just the touch screen its the whole laptop. that is the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars. Other than that it is just what I needed.

If you're buying this laptop, buy a really, REALLY good warranty. On second thought, just don't buy this laptop at all.
Asus couldn't pay me to recommend this laptop to someone.I've been a Windows and Asus fan for years, but this computer turned me off to both. Since purchasing it from Best Buy less than a year ago, I've had two major crashes so bad that the computer had to be wiped entirely. The first was caused by a corrupted operating system, the second by an update getting stuck in an infinite loop.I just got this computer back from the shop--thank God for warranties--after that last issue, and now the multimedia keys on the keyboard don't work. I was told it's probably a hardware issue and it'll have to be sent in to the main office for repairs for 3-4 weeks.I swear, I've probably had this thing in the shop more times than I've had it at home.Avoid at all costs.
