Q: will this work under a hard top?

Bestop Targa Style Sun Bikini top is an interior sun shade that attaches above the driver and passenger seats, and stays there whether you have your soft top or hard top is on or off. No-drill attachment and easy roll storage.

Q: when connecting it to the latches in the front, does it need a button or does it come with it? the latches in the front do not have a snap button.

No snap button. Has velcro to attach. I love the mesh top. It keeps the sun off of you and fits nice.

Q: Does it prevent bugs from getting in? I’ve got a similar one and bees still get in. Poor dog has been stung:(

Yes it should keep dirt leaves etc and bees out ! The Bestop targa top is a good fit with straps and buckles ,better than the cheaper sunshades which just have bungee cords .

Q: Does it keep wrangler unlimited 2012

Yes it will fit the unlimited. However it only covers the 2 front seats. The company Bestop does make a longer version for the 4 door jeep to cover both sets of seats.
