Broke after one use, it is made cheap
I used this one time for about one minute to testing my lead melting pot. he next time I went to use it I found the dial was now loose on the shaft, dial would spin easily and needle stayed still. It was trash at that point, even if I could have recalibrated it would not have stayed put. Seems whatever was inside to hold the dial face plat tight to the stem became loose from heat. Not a good thing for something said to read up to 1000°. I contacted Amazon and they were extremely helpful! They gave me a refund on the spot. I will buy a new one from Roto-Metal, it is the same as a RCBS, but cheaper.. David, Tucson, AZ

Nice but not very durable, esp. at the higher temps
I have had at least 6 or 7 of these over the years at least. They almost always fail at the same place: where the stem meets the back of the dial. Too small of a diameter of a stem, coupled with too thin a nut perhaps 3/16" thick max) provide far too little support for the long stem. Coupled with a weak housing and too thin housing and glass, it takes very little to break these. Very frustrating - a few times they've broken even in the first 2 or 3 weeks. Also, do *not* try turning / rotating the dial after it's hot as first the nut will loosen, then the stem breaks off the back - frequently after it's only been rotated back to the right position around a half dozen times. They are especially weak if your temps ever get over 800 or 850 as this seems to be around the temp that whatever they seem to be using as glue or "loc-tite" for the nut on the back breaks down and things first loosen, then break pretty soon thereafter.

Flawless at First...
So I purchased this thermometer based on some of the reviews. However I have been pretty disappointed. I tested the thermometer when it first arrived by using boiling water to test the calibration. It was spot on. However, after only two uses this summer it has already broken. As you can see in the video the indicator now spins freely. Which makes it impossible to tell what the actual temperature is. The unit has NOT been damaged in any way. It was not dropped or misused. I contacted the seller (Who is also the manufacturer) on Monday, Jan 30th 2019. The representative I spoke with told me they stand by their products. However since I purchased the product through Amazon I would need to contact Amazon with my concerns or any request for a warranty replacement. I filed a request through Amazon on the same day and have yet to hear from the manufacturer.

Measure hot flue gasses
I don't have any way of testing it's accuracy, but I believe it is accurate enough for testing flue gasses in my oil boiler. Tel-Tru is a good American brand.
