EVELO Aries Electric Bike with Shimano Alivio 8-Speed Drivetrain & 250W Mid-Drive Motor

I am extremely satisfied with every aspect of my Evelo Aries purchase.I decided to purchase the Evelo Electric bike after reading onlines reviews about several electic assist bikes available. I made the correct decision. Let me explain. First of all, I live in Los Angeles and there are no dealers here but after talking to the Evelo staff over the phone, I gained confidence that I could put easily assemble the bike when it arrived. Also, the staff is extremely courteous and helpful making sure to be available by both email and telephone. It came within a few days by FedEx. I found that it was easier than I expected. The bike is almost full assembled and it was almost intuitive on how to put finish the job. It took about one hour.How does the bike perform. It is amazing! I purchased the NuVinci upgrade which allows for easy and unlimited changes in gear ratios. It works excellently for me going up hills on the way to work. I also love the ability to change the amount of electrical assist. This allows me to do a work out type ride with low or no assist or a get to work ride without having to change my clothes when I get to work. I am a physician and am conscious of not offending my patients when I get to work.In sum, this is a great piece of machinery which works for my needs for commuting and exercising--as well as keep my car off the street using lots of fuel.

This is the first product in 10 years of using Amazon.com for which I have written a review. I bought the EVELO bike based on all of the positive reviews, its specs, and the extremely knowledge technical support. I wish there was a rating beyond 5 stars, since this bike blew my mind today when taking it for a ride.I went through two electric bikes before settling on the EVELO, The first was a cheaply made bike off of eBay, that couldn't even get up a small hill. The second was a $1,600 bike with 1,000 watts or power and a max speed of 30 mph. However, this speed could only be accomplished with the “motor only mode”, since the gear systems were at odds with the motor, and the ride never felt "natural". It felt like a spinning class with the motor all of the time, having to peddle incredibly fast to make any difference ins peed. The top speed of 30 mph on a flat (over 40 mph downhill) was just TOO FAST and illegal in most states (you are required to register the bike if it goes over 20 mph, which the EVELO on-road mode is set too. If you want 40 mph+ speeds, a motorcycle would be the way to go.Now comes the EVELO, with a max speed of 25 mph (which seems perfect), and a special gearing system called the "NuVinci" which allows for seamless gear changes, even when stopped. It has a completely natural feel of riding a bike, without even noticing the motor is helping you when on the peddle assist settings (except for going much faster than you would normally go, at half the effort!). You can set the peddle assist as hard or as easy as you would like, which is great, since it allows me to keep up with my friend who is a much better bike-rider.If you are hesitant about buying online, don't be. There is a 7 day free trial, where if you don't like the bike, you can return it for its full cost plus shipping during this time period. But I doubt anyone returns it after using it! I never rode bikes consistently before, but now plan to use this every day! Like having a handicap in golf.FYI: Factory default setting has a max speed of 20 mpg. You can use the motor-only mode and go up to 25 mph, however, by changing a few setting it is ready to go 25 mpg in these off-road setting (in off-road terrain, not streets or bike paths). Turn the LCD screen on by holding down the middle button, and then hold the plus/minus signs down at the same time. Scrolling through this menu, which pops up, enables you to up it to 40 km/hr., which is about 25 mph.I would recommend getting the Aries fully loaded, since the battery lasts longer and lets you go faster and for longer speeds (up to 60 miles with peddle assist!). It also looks very cool!!

I own a couple of these bikes as rentals for my tours in Northern Michigan. I tested a lot of bikes that do not have the power. I was a bit sceptical that a small 250 watt motor would outperform a 500 watt motor, but it does. The hill climbing torque is very impressive. The integrated battery in the frame is also a big plus.

I recently purchased this bike from the seller directly due to a discounted open box item. It is awesome. I commute daily to work on it and it is fantastic. I used to ride a regular Schwinn which I purchased here on Amazon but I was getting burned out due to the long grade I climb riding home. I was a little anxious to spend so much money sight unseen but Evelo reached out to me super fast, they answered all my questions and the warranty is superb. Any company that has such great customer service and backs the products they sell like these folks do is to be commended. Is almost cheating to ride to work now, I can work as hard or little as I choose and this bike takes up the slack. The battery lasts me 2 days and I have a 12 mile ride round trip. The motor gives me just enough juice to pedal and I do not break a sweat as I pass others on bikes looking at me like what the heck! The suspension awesome! The ability to charge my phone as I ride is awesome! Do your research. There are tons of reviews on Youtube etc out on the web. That said, if you are looking for a commute bike, a daily cruiser, a weekend with the kids this is absolutely the choice! 5 stars.
